We are just about to get a totally deaf 18 month old bitch dalmation from a rescue centre. Has anybody got any experience of the likely problems we are going to come up against as we try to train her?
The trick is to train the dog. The same hand signals used in dog training classes is a great start. I have a male deaf dal and he is just as smart if not smarter than my hearing dog. He is more attentive and has learned sign language signals as well. I found it was just as easy to train him as it was my hearing dog. With any dog you must be consistent and this dog is no different. There is an excellent resource on line under deafdogs.org
