Hey - I'm looking to adopt a new dog. My 11 yr old lab just died (tear) and I was looking at Dalmations. I have heard and have been told that they are wild cards and extremely rambunxious(sp) but I read that they are fast learners and good at commands. Can anyone help me out?

If you get a dog from a reputibable breeder, one that breeds them to AKC standards, with the proper temperment you should be OK.......they are great dogs, but caution......they need lots of attention and are very active........they are great jogging partners and love being with humans......not a dog to be locked away and expected to sit quietly until the owner comes out to pet them........A board dalmation can be destructive.......but that is true of almost any breed. Please do yourself a favor & read everything you can find on the internet about them, their good points and bad points before you get one........also if you get from a breeder a good breeder will agree to take the dog back if you and the animal don't get along or aren't suited for one another.......I also can tell you our dog is a very picky eater.......I have heard dals have a sensitve digestive system (can't digest foods high in purines) so you have to be knowlegable about what to feed them........Right now we are looking for a food our dog will and can eat........Here is a photo of our guy Taco.......he is very protective of our kids......and a good pet quality dog.

PEOPLE SAY DALMATIONS ARE HYPER. MOST DOGS ARE. THEY ARE NOT ANY MORE HYPER THAN A LAB OR RETRIVER. I HAVE HAD TWO DALMATIONS MY SECOND ONE WAS A VERY GOOD DOG. HE WAS NOT AT ALL HYPER. HE WAS KIND OF TIMID AND AGRESSIVE THOUGH. I HAD A FRIEND THAT HAD ONE, BUT IT BECAME TOO AGRESSIVE WITH HER KIDS AND THEY HAD TO HAVE IT PUT TO SLEEP. MY SECOND ONE DIED WHEN HE WAS FIVE OF LIVER FAILURE. THEY SEEM TO HAVE A LOT OF WEIRD HEALTH PROBLEMS LIKE THAT. I REALLY LIKED THE DOG. I JUST BOUGHT A HOUSE AND I WANT TO GET ANOTHER DOG. I LOOK AT OTHER DOGS, BUT I ALWAYS END UP WANTING TO GET ANOTHER DAL. I PROBABLY WILL. THAT IS JUST WHAT I WANT. I THINK ALL DOGS ARE HIGH MAINTENANCE AND HYPER. YOU CAN'T JUST LET THEM SIT IN THE BACK YARD. THEY WILL LOOSE THEIR MARBLES. GET WHAT YOU WANT. IF YOU ASK TOO MANY PEOPLE OF THEIR OPINION YOU WILL GO NUTS. SOME PEOPLE LIKE THEM SOME DON'T. im sorry for your loss. my dalmation died about a year ago. she was 14.
if you want to get a dalmation, they are awesome!!!!
when all my friends found out I had a dalmation, they were surprised. they all think that dalmations are mean animals, but i knew one my whole life, and she was sooo sweet! my dad said that it is not the species of the animal, its just how the animal is brought up and trained. i think they are very nice animals.
